When: Thursday Evening, 8/26

In this keynote address funsmith Bernie DeKoven will talk about the psychology of fun and journeys on the playful path that enrich people’s lives. During the course of their working lives, most people lose touch with the sources of their personal power. Thirty-five years ago, while developing a curriculum in theater for elementary school kids, Bernie made two discoveries that changed his life and some small but significant parts of the world: fun is fundamental to happiness, people can be taught how to have more fun. He eventually discovered that there was a direct connection between the experience of alienation, and the amount of fun people were having – that the more alienated people were, the less fun. Realizing he could help people make anything more fun – their jobs, their relationships, the things they make and do – Bernie set about creating public and private workshops for exploring the Playful Path.

We will play specifically with asana (postures) as well as other essential elements from the traditional “eight limbed” and “eight fold” paths. Using interactive exercises we will explore the edges of non-dualism and begin to break down the barriers that keep us separate and disconnected from our natural state of wholeness. Participants will leave this workshop with a clear understanding of how to introduce laughter into traditional yoga practice and vice versa.

During this presentation we will monitor the breathing physiology of 8 people simultaneously while we will evaluate their breathing behavior, observe the effects of changing their breathing behavior, and investigate the real-time effects of laughter on their respiratory physiology.
